Peter Whitelaw Profile

Peter studied Electronic Engineering at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and then graduated as an Army Officer at the Officer Training Unit Scheyville.

After serving as Technical Officer, Guided Weapons and Communications in Army Headquarters he expanded his focus in technology into sales and management roles with Hewlett Packard and Tektronix.

Then followed several years as a director of venture capital start-up companies primarily in the electronics and communications industries where his companies achieved awards for product innovation and export marketing.

Later he participated in the establishment of Optus Communications where he created and managed a corporate and government sales organisation. He transferred to Mayne Nickless Ltd, the major shareholder in Optus, as Director, Business Development, Security Group where he managed major re-structures, developed strategic alliances, facilitated acquisitions, mergers and sale of businesses. He later joined Ausdoc Ltd as General Manager, Business Development where he developed business strategies, assessed acquisition opportunities and integrated businesses.

In 1997 Peter formed Rational Management where he managed a firm of consultants and trainers, developing methodologies and courses and delivering project management, portfolio management and change management consulting and training services. Clients included a wide range of government, commercial and industrial organisations in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and North America. He sold Rational Management to MetaPM in 2008.

Peter has accreditation as a trainer and consultant in the PRINCE2® project management methodology, portfolio management and change management. He also has qualifications in Business Administration (Macquarie University and Monash Mount Eliza), Export Marketing, Training, Strategic Alliances, Sales and Marketing. Peter is accredited to deliver Integro’s Customer-Focused Culture program and Leadership Development program and the Everything DiSC profiles and Everything DiSC 363 Leadership Feedback.

He is, or has been, a Member of the Company Directors Association of Australia, an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Fellow of the Australian Sales Institute, a Life Governor of the Shrine of Remembrance, Life Member of the OTU Association (Army Officers), a Director of Lord Somers and Powerhouse Youth Leadership Association, a member of the Project Management Institute, a member of the Australian Institute of Project Management, an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Training and Development, a member of the Change Management Institute and a founding member of the Association of Change Management Professionals.
